Day 1: Cappadocia
After departing from Istanbul in the morning, we arrive in Kayseri were we begin our tour of breathtaking Cappadocia. This area is renowned for its awe-inspiring natural rock formations that were utilized for everything from housing, to churches, and even complete underground villages. Our first stop is in Uchisar where we visit the Uchisar Fortress. With a breathtaking view of the surrounding Cappadocia formations, this 60-meter high fortress was not built but carved out of a natural hill dominating the area.

Next we drive to Turasan Winery. Cappadocia is one of the main wine producing regions in Turkey, and Turasan winery is the biggest producer in the area. Here we tour the factory and learn about wine production, followed by a wine tasting. After lunch our final visit is to Goreme’s open air museum which consists of steep cliffs and many hidden churches dating from the second half of the 9th century and later.

Day 2: Cappadocia
This morning after breakfast, or an optional early morning balloon ride, we begin a full-day tour of Cappadocia.

First we drive to the Rose and Red Valleys for a half-day hike. As we walk through the breathtaking beauty of these valleys, we literally see thousands of fairy chimneys of various shapes and sizes. We also visit en route several hidden churches that lie off-the-beaten path. After lunch we visit the small town of Avanos which is famous for its pottery and carpets. At the Avanos Handcraft Center we learn about these regional crafts and may also see demonstrations performed by local craftsmen. Our final visit is to the remarkable underground city of Derinkuyu. Beginning in the 2nd century, as successive armies swept across Asia Minor, the resident of Cappadocia created uniquely defensible communities by digging approximately eight stories down into the volcanic tufa stone. At the end of our tour we transfer to the Kayseri airport for the return flight to Istanbul.

Optional Program: A truly uncommon experience, an early morning hot air balloon flight over the spectacular Cappadocian landscape is one of life’s great thrills. Cappadocia is a land of extreme beauty, the deep canyons and lush fertile valleys make this a unique and memorable flight.

This tour includes: transfer, short hot air balloon ride (45 minute to 1 hour), glass of champagne, and flight certificate.
